Learning Support Teachers and classroom teachers work together to provide high quality, effective, learning opportunities that meet individual student's needs.

 The learning support process involves:

  • class teachers reviewing student data in collaboration with learning support staff to inform and plan levels of support for individual students

  • consultation with parents of students who may require curriculum adjustments that promote development in identified learning areas to support student access to the curriculum

  • the verification of eligible students through the Educational Adjustment Program (EAP), who require significant intervention and development of curriculum and assessment adjustments to that of their year level cohort.

The school Guidance Officer works alongside special education staff to support students.  Students and parents are welcome to make an appointment to see the Guidance Officer through the school's administration.

A Speech Therapist offers speech assessments and provides speech programs to students and staff. The Speech Therapist also provides inservice for teacher aides who deliver Goomeri's speech language program for identified students each day.  This program is an initiative in the school and is seen as critical in the development of students literacy skills.

Visiting Advisory Teachers provide services for children on a needs basis. If you are concerned that your  child requires any of these services, please contact the school.

School Based Youth Health Nurse works with the school community on issues that may effect the health and wellbeing of young people and the school community as a whole.  The school based youth health nurse visits Goomeri weekly and appointments can be made through the school office to speak with her privately.

Throughout the year, Goomeri State School P-10 makes available the following health services: parent information sessions by visiting health specialists, immunisation clinics, dental van visits and hearing screening tests.

A Chaplaincy program is an optional service at Goomeri to provide students, staff and parents with support.  Chaplaincy services provide an additional adult role model in schools.  Whilst personally modelling and owning their own faith positions or belief, chaplains avoid any implications that any one religion, denomination or other set of beliefs is advantageous or superior to any other denomination, relgion or belief. Our chaplaincy program is compatible with policies and practices that apply to delivery of any service in a multi-faith and multicultural state school community.
